Calf strain

A calf strain will usualtally happen suddenly following a blow or while running, if the pain builds up slowly it may be posterior compartment pain (sees shin splits)

R.I.C.E. is important to limit the swelling and damage caused by internal bleeding.

This kind of injury responds quickly to deep oscillation or ultra-sound and deep tissue massage unless severely torn.  


When the injury is repaired the rehab can start, place the balls of your feet on a step, lower slowly this will stretch the calf then rise up onto your toes. When this can be done without discomfort, try on one foot but hold onto something to prevent falling.
