Sciatic nerve

This is a common problem that some individuals are prone to due to the route that the Sciatic nerve takes from the spine and down through the leg.

The blue line shows the route of the sciatic nerve from the spine down to the foot.

If the nerve is trapped at the lower back or Piriforis (top of bum) the pain can be felt along the full length of the nerve in the hamstring, knee, calf or foot.

In some people the nerve passes through the Piriforis muscle not around it, they will be more prone to this problem but the treatment is the same and can be just as succesfull.

The good news is, if the nerve is trapped by a excessive muscle tension or nerve adhesions it will respond quickly to deep oscillation or deep tissue massage treatment
